Gregor Maehle at Manas:
Asana, Breath and Meditation
8–9 May 2027

We are delighted to welcome Gregor Maehle to Manas for one weekend in May 2027.
For almost fifty years he has studied and practiced yoga, from the sadhus and tantric masters of India to the anatomy of the posture, and he brings all of it together with humor and clarity. His teaching is practical, relevant and easy to approach, whatever style you practice.
Over two days he teaches five sessions: two led asana classes, a Mysore-style practice, a meditation workshop and a workshop on breath. Book the whole weekend, a single day, or one class.

About the sessions

Led Asana (2 hours, Saturday and Sunday) — Students of all yoga styles can benefit from Gregor’s led class. He analyzes the intricate anatomical details of accessible postures while keeping up as much pace as possible, breaking the entry and exit of each posture into its parts. When you understand which actions take you deep into a pose, you practice safely and waste less energy. This precision also helps release conditioning and emotion held in the body’s tissues, and prepares you for pranayama and meditation.

Jnana Yoga: The Tantric Meditations of the Vijnana Bhairava (2.5 hours) — This workshop draws on the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, an ancient text of Kashmir Shaivism that holds 112 meditation techniques, many of which echo today’s popular methods. Most of them are simpler and need less effort than classical yogic meditation, and there are many to choose from, so you can find the one that suits you. Gregor focuses on the practices that reveal your true nature as consciousness, awareness itself rather than its contents. This brings deep peace and stillness, and, in the spirit of Sri Aurobindo, it is not the end of the path but the beginning of its most productive phase, in which we become more receptive to insight.

Mysore-style class (2 hours, Saturday evening) — The Mysore format lets you apply what you learned in the led class, while Gregor offers personal attention to each student’s needs, so that everyone feels supported in their learning. Our Manas teachers assist [add if confirmed: and Monica Gauci joins the class].

The Breath of Yoga: Pranayama and Kriya (2.5 hours) — Imagine a switch that lets you choose between your analytical and intuitive mind, between fight-or-flight and rest, or between energized and deeply relaxed, within a few minutes. That switch exists, and it sits in the middle of your face: your nose. Pranayama is among the most neglected and powerful methods of yoga, the link between asana and meditation. You learn to use it to bring balance and health, and to still the mind for insight. The kriyas are cleansing techniques that support your postures and are especially valuable for people living in big cities.
